WHAT TO EXPECT?
Whether you prefer a popular Brazilian or a full-blown Hollywood, bikini waxes have been boosting women’s confidence for decades.
When it comes to hair removal, the term ‘Brazilian wax’ evokes equal parts awe and fear. While many people know that Brazilian wax involves waxing pubic hair, there is always a question of how to care for your skin after.
Whether you’re looking into waxing hair removal for the first time or are a professional and want to ensure that your clients aren’t getting bumps after waxing here’s everything you need to know about the Brazilian wax and Brazilian wax aftercare.
BEFORE YOU WAX
People who are trying out waxing for the first time often have many of the same concerns. If you are one of those first timers, it’s always a good idea to let us know, and below is some really useful information as to what to expect, and what pre-wax care measures to take.
Here are some of the best tips to make the waxing experience pleasant for everyone.
So let’s cut straight to the chase. If you’ve never had a bikini wax before, the idea of dropping your pants in front of a stranger can feel a little daunting. We get it. Luckily, there’s no need to worry! your experienced therapist has seen it all before, many times, you don’t even have to go completely commando (comfy underwear is advised and if you have none, we provide a disposable).
All you need to do is leave your fears at the door and decide on which kind of bikini wax you’d like.
GRAB A PAIN KILLER:
A lot of people ask, ‘does waxing hurt?’ and, the short answer is yes, it does. To make the process of hair waxing more bearable grab a mild pain killer, such as Advil or Tylenol about 30 minutes before your appointment
DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH HAIR TO BE WAXED?:
For your hair to be waxed, it needs to be of a certain length, so you’ll want to give it a bit of time to grow out.
KEEP IT CLEAN:
Make sure the area to be waxed is clean before your appointment.
TIME YOUR WAX CORRECTLY: You’ll want to get the wax a few days before or a few days after your period for maximum comfort.
NEVER WAX WHEN ON A PERIOD
BE READY:
Be mentally prepared for what is going to happen. Some people feel shy or uncomfortable when having to bear their privates to a stranger for waxing. If you’re a new client, letting the tech know it’s your first time is a great idea.
Go FOR QUALITY:
You should also opt for high-quality wax or top end salon to help ensure the process goes smoothly. There are many high-quality soft waxes for hair removal on the market, and each offers a variety of features to help make your wax go smoothly. always look at reviews.
SPEAK UP:
If you have any allergies, Anxieties, on medication, or have any unusual skin condition, be sure to let the tech know before they start.
AFTER CARE WAX
After your appointment, there are a few additional things that you can do during after wax care to ensure that your skin stays smooth and free of bumps or breakouts, which are some of the most common problems after a wax.
YOUR WAXING INCLUDES
* A Classic ‘Bikini’, which is simply a tidy around your knicker line. this includes underside ~ if you wish
* An Extended Bikini, which is simply a tidy around your knicker line. but this is taken in more to allow thing type underwear to be worn. this includes underside ~ if you choose.
* A ‘Brazilian’, which leaves a landing strip of hair but nothing else.
* A Hollywood’, which is total hair removal, front, back, sides, you name it. WOMEN ONLY
BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
You can’t shave down there for at least 10 -14 days or so. Why? Because your therapist needs some hair to work with, and if you’re totally bare, the wax has nothing to grab onto. best way to judge the length is: your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice also known as 1/4inch, 5mm, or 0.5cm,
THE TREATMENT:
Now onto the treatment itself! you’ll be asked to lie down on a comfortable salon bed. Before your therapist asks you to get into any position your therapist will explain the process and what to expect. You will then be cleaned with an antibacterial solution just to clear away any unwanted dirt sweat or skin. Melted warm wax is then smoothly placed onto the desired area with a spatula. Using a strip of cloth for leg wax they’ll then press down for a few seconds and pull away in one quick movement. - It’s that simple! and hot wax is only used for for the delicate intimate area,
Don’t be alarmed if your therapist goes round to your rear area too as this is all part of the process. Trust me, you’ll love the end results! The same process applies with Hot wax, however hot wax adheres to the hair not the skin so no rubbing is applied, and no strips are used. The hot wax goes on warm, sets, then once hard is pulled away encapsulating all the hairs with it. (Intimate areas only)
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Many people worry about how painful a bikini wax truly is. We won’t lie and say it’s entirely painless, but you definitely get used to it over time and the results are well worth it. Your therapist will apply a cooling aloe vera gel or Tea Tree Gel oil or cream immediately after your treatment and you can expect any redness to die down shortly after. Some salons say you should pass on any sexual or physical activity for at least 24 hours after your bikini, Brazilian, Hollywood wax (sigh!). But this is good advice, and this is to prevent any friction or irritation as the area is tender. by doing so can lead to sores and irritations.
And always leave the salon in loose clothing to prevent irritation and rubbing. When you arrive home let the area breath by remove under garments
HOW LONG BEFORE I RE-BOOK?
This depends on how coarse your hair is, or how quickly it grows back, most therapists recommend waiting around a month between waxing treatments. Usually between 3-5 weeks. The more you go, the weaker the root gets which means less hair and less pain. Win, Win, Win!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
PREGANCY. if you are in your 1st trimester it is recommended that you DO NOT wax as we appreciate the first 12 weeks can be a delicate time. also.
If you are 36 weeks and over then once again this is a very delicate time and waxing should be avoided.
LEGAL AGE FOR WAXING
* 16 years and over
* If aged 16 or under then a parental consent form must be completed by the parent or legal guardian and parental guidance is needed on the day, meaning they must be present.
RULE OF THUMB FOR A CHILD
if you cannot see the hair with a naked eye, it doesn't need waxing
